Tribe began as a home church in 2001 by Reverend Rebecca Ver Straten-McSparran, her husband David McSparran and artist Kevin Rolly. From the beginning Tribe’s community blended practices both ancient and new within Christianity. The vision for Tribe was for it to become an integral part of the LA arts and Burning Man community.

Tribe’s worship developed around the drum circle blending African music, Celtic music and Gregorian chant. Over the years we have grown and evolved, moving from the McSparran’s home, to a space on Wilshire’s Miracle Mile, and presently meeting in the Downtown LA headquarters of the band and performance troupe, Mutaytor.

In February 2008, Reverend Rebecca stepped down as head pastor for an extended sabbatical. As Tribe moves forward, the leadership of our community now rests primarily with a leadership team that is committed to encouraging the emergence of the unique gifts of the community, allowing each member to be a leader according to their own gifting.
